Happy birthday Chris Colfer!  Didn’t exactly have anything planned, but here’s an Elf Wizard Kurt I’ve been working on for an as-yet-unfinished fantasy Glee piece!

Outfit inspiration comes mostly from Georgian fashion (apparently different from Elizabethan and Victorian.  OH GEORGE).  And Elaith Craulnober (-,-).  As an easter egg of sorts, his wand has very small elements of all three traditional Harry Potter wand cores — phoenix, dragon, and unicorn — because why the heck not.

Awesome people have complimented me before on how clean my linework seems, but I think that may be because I usually lighten and clean most of the WIPs I upload by Photoshop witchcraft.  As you can see in this less “adjusted” photo, the actual work process is very sketchy and busy and experimental.  As it should be!  BATHE YOUR PORTRAITS IN THE BLOOD OF YOUR PENCILS, FRIENDS.

This is…something I did for me.  I mean, the last episode left me with a lot of negative emotions and I wanted to put them to some kind of good use and just…contextualize them for myself.  Thus…this. 
It helps that I did plan on doing emotional spectrum sets for the remaining Glee characters…at some point…before I die or something…though I’m also stuck in the middle of another big longterm project for the moment. :< But this is one that came immediately to my head after that last episode, and I just had to get it down.

(Besides, I didn’t want to miss out on the fun of drawing Diva Blaine’s fur coat.)

In the DC Universe’s Green Lantern mythos, there are 7 different-colored corps that tap into the different-colored lights of the emotional spectrum.  Green is the color of willpower, blue the color of hope, yellow fear, and so forth.  The 7 corps channel the power of these emotions through their lantern batteries and unleash them as solid light energy through their power rings.  Think…Captain Planet, Rainbow Brite, and the Care Bears having the biggest orgy ever.

Tina is a Star Sapphire, a group of female warriors whose violet rings channel the light of love.  Their duty is to protect and spread love through the universe by any means.  However, since love is furthest away from the center of the emotional spectrum (along with rage), the violet power ring greatly influences its user; all but the most experienced Star Sapphires are beholden to their emotions of love, unable to act of their own rational accord. In many ways, the violet light is as dangerous to its wielder as it is to their foes, as Tina is beginning to discover.

Blaine is a member of the Indigo Tribe, who harness the indigo light of compassion, the rarest light in the emotional spectrum.  On the surface, the Tribe exists to spread goodwill through the universe, but the dark truth is that members of the tribe are comprised from criminals who have done great wrong in the past; the indigo ring forces them to feel empathy and compassion for others where there was none before.  Blaine is one of the rare members of the Indigo Tribe who chose to wear the ring himself, in order to atone for his past and to fill the constant void in his heart.
